Youth Involvement Program - YIPS
YIPS is a recognition and reward program for members aged 13-18 years.
The intention of YIPs is to retain the young members within the club and ultimately the surf lifesaving movement. YIPs encourages a sense of organisational commitment and pride and assists clubs with the process of succession planning by developing future leaders.
The program is designed to motivate, recognise and reward our young members, while providing them with the opportunity to explore and become involved in a range of areas within surf life saving which they may not have already considered.
There are rewards and recognition for youth participants for their commitment as they set achievable goals which encourage on-going participation across a range of lifesaving activities. It promotes leadership skills, personal development and social interaction with peers and community.
The YIPs program is self-paced and can be completed in three years, give or take depending on the member. Participants collect points for being involved in a range of lifesaving activities. The more activities they engage in and the more hours they volunteer, the greater the points collected.
YIPs is designed to encourage youth participation in all areas of club activity including:
Lifesaving
Development
Competition
Administration
Junior Activities (nippers)
Youth Activities
Club Activities
Community Project (gold level only)
Participants choose the areas that interest them and their level of involvement. Three levels of achievement can be attained by collecting points. These include:
Bronze - Minimum 150 points completed in three YIPs areas and 25 hours patrol
Silver - Minimum 400 points completed in four YIPs areas and 65 hours patrol
Gold - Minimum 800 points completed in five YIPs areas and 115 hours patrol and a community project of significance.
For further details go to Surf Life Saving Queensland
To join the YIPs program at Kirra let the YIPs Coordinator know that you want to participate. Participate in club activities and collect points. Records your points in your YIPs book and keep your coordinator updated with your accomplishments.
